The game was a wee bit feisty at times and early yellow cards for each side served as a warning from the match official. Ayr were first on the scoreboard from a penalty, but from here on it was Highland who steadily improved to take control of the match.
Highland led 11-3 at the break after a Mike Gordon try and two Scott Fraser penalties.
In the second-half it took a while for Highland to increase their lead, first from a long range penalty by Craig Irvine. Time was running out as they saw Hugo Crush score the second try which was immediately followed by a Conor Ross touchdown.
Again from the restart in the dying seconds it looked like Crush had pulled in the last defender only for his pass to the support to hit the back of that defender and the bonus point try missed with the final whistle blown.
After the match hooker Kevin Brown was presented with a silver quaich by Head Coach Dave Carson for the milestone achievement of playing his 300th match (actually 301 on the day) for the club.
Also, the latest draw for the 250 club was made and Christa Martin was the lucky winner of £100 with number 247. The big Christmas Draw is approaching so join now!
